Two designated Wilderness Areas, Kendrick Mountain and Sycamore Canyon, and the 800-mile long Arizona National Scenic Trail are shared between the Kaibab and other National Forests in Arizona. Explore these opportunities to enjoy more of your public lands!

Kendrick Mountain Wilderness

An expansive view from the top of Kendrick Mountain with a forested landscape dotted with ancient volcanic cinder cones and clear meadow areas, and the bright yellow color of aspen trees in fall color along the flanks of Kendrick Mountain in the foreground and the San Francisco Peaks in the background.

Three maintained trails totaling 14 miles offer access to the wilderness, and lead hikers to the top of Kendrick Mountain and the fire lookout tower. When the lookout tower is open during summer months, the lookout operator usually welcomes visitors to visit the top of the tower to enjoy the views.

Sycamore Canyon Wilderness

A canyon lays out from a high viewpoint, with rocks and prickly pear cactus in the foreground.

Sycamore Canyon cuts through the Mogollon Rim, then drops off the Colorado Plateau with an unmatched flourish of red rock buttes and sheer cliffs. It winds for 20 miles through the Kaibab, Coconino, and Prescott National Forests along Sycamore Creek and at places stretches 7 miles from rim to rim.

A trail passes through a meadow bordered in evergreen trees beneath a blue sky with puffy white clouds.
