Pine Bar Campground

Pine Bar Campground is nestled along the banks of Tincup Creek, about nine miles east of Freedom, Idaho, near the Wyoming border. Situated within the Caribou-Targhee National Forest’s Montpelier Ranger District, this campground rests at an elevation of 6,400 feet, accessible by heading southwest from Alpine, Wyoming, on US-89 S for 12.8 miles, right onto WY-239 W for 1.6 miles, right onto County Line Road/State Line Road for 0.9 miles, then left onto ID-34 W for 9.5 miles.

Natural Features: A canopy of mixed conifer forest drapes the campground, offering partial shade along the creek’s edge, where Tincup Creek ripples gently through the landscape. Summer grasses sway in the breeze, framing this quiet retreat in the shadow of the Bear River Range.

The creek tempts anglers with its fishing opportunities, while nearby trails invite hiking and exploration through the rolling hills and forests. Its peaceful seclusion makes it a haven for those craving a simple escape into Idaho’s wild beauty.

Facilities: The campground offers five single-family sites and one double-family site, each equipped with picnic tables and campfire rings. Vault toilets are available, but there’s no drinking water, so campers must bring their own and pack out all trash, as no garbage service exists. Roads and parking spurs are gravel, welcoming tents and small trailers to this first-come, first-served outpost.
