Santa Clara Divide Road Hazard Tree Removal

The Angeles National Forest is preparing to make a decision on a proposal to cut down and remove dead and dying hazard trees along approximately 12.2 miles of Santa Clara Divide Road, 3N17, and several connected roads. The trees will be removed to avoid buildup of hazardous fuels for a fire. The need for the project is to provide for safe use of the roads, including access to campgrounds. Only dead and dying trees will be felled and removed within 200 feet of project roads. Approximately 558 acres will be treated by cutting and removal of approximately 1,740 trees. Logs and other wood material will be moved to landings or wide areas along the roads, to be decked and sold. See the proposed action and project map for details. The project was initially subject to comment and appeal procedures, and a legal notice was published on December 21, starting a 30-day comment period. Due to changes in appeals laws enacted by Congress in early 2014, the project is no longer subject to appeals.
