INYO NATIONAL FOREST 

HORSESHOE PIT AREA CLOSURE 

 

Pursuant to 16 U.S.C § 551 and 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(a), and to provide for public safety while large decks of logs are stored on site, the following act is prohibited within the Inyo National Forest. This Order is effective from October 1, 2025, through October 1, 2027. 

1.Entering or being in the Horseshoe Pit Area Closure, as described below and shown on ExhibitA.36 C.F.R. § 261.53(e).

The boundary of the Horseshoe Pit Area Closure begins at Forest System Road 03S10F at the gate (37.6140065N 119.0194637W). East from this coordinate, Forest System Road 03S10F is closed. The boundary of the closure follows the Forest System Road 04S23A from the gate for 0.1 miles to (37.6143767N 119.0191979W) then heads northeast for 0.15 miles to (37.6159766N 119.0169401W) then heads west to (37.6161439N 119.0186775W). The closure boundary then moves south to (37.6151434N 119.0189129W) and then southwest towards the end of road 03S10F (37.6143767N 119.0191979W). The closure then follows 03S10F to the starting point at the gate on 03S10F returning to the original location 

Pursuant to 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this Order: 

  1.Persons with an approved Forest Service Permit No. FS-7700-48 (Permit for Use of Roads, Trails, or Areas      Restricted by Regulation or Order), specifically exempting them from this Order.

 2.Any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or fire-fighting force in the performance of  an official duty.

This prohibition is in addition to the general prohibitions contained in 36 C.F.R. Part 261, Subpart A. A violation of these prohibitions is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than six months, or both. 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 18 U.S.C. §§ 3559, 3571, and 3581.
