The Schedule of Proposed Actions (SOPA) contains a list of proposed
actions for Sierra National Forest that will soon begin or are currently undergoing environmental
analysis and documentation. It provides information so that you can become
aware of and indicate your interest in specific proposals. We encourage your
early and ongoing involvement in any proposals of interest to you.
The purpose of the project is to capture the economic value and benefit of the forest products, and reforest the landscape deforested by the Aspen Fire.
OHV related restoration implementation activities along the Bald Mountain OHV Trail system on the SNF to include closing off reroutes and detours, protection of meadows, rehab of closed areas, and install of signage.
Implement restoration treatments collaboratively to reduce hazardous fuels, retain and promote large tree and denning/nesting structures, promote stand/landscape heterogeneity, and provide for natural regeneration of shade intolerant tree species.
Project will utilize a mastication machine to grind brush and small trees to create a fuel break around the Bass Lake Annex private property. Brush and trees will generally be 1-9 inches in diameter. Cut material will be mulched and left to decompose
Hazard trees will be removed along entire district road system, focusing on major arterial and collector roads, including roads indicated on the Forest Recreation Visitor Map.

Big Creek School is proposing to install a new 400 foot section of buried 6-inch sewer line and 2 new manholes and tying in with an existing SCE system, located on Forest Service land within the FERC licensed boundary.
Hand cutting (23 acres)of live trees less than 12 inches DBH and hand pile (15 acres) and tractro pile (5 acres) within 1000 ft of the community of Big Creek.
This project will implement fuels reduction, improve forest health and increase public safety in response to high levels of mortality due to bark beetles. This project will include fuel breaks, density reduction and reforestation.
Roadway improvement to adjoin private parcels of land for residential development as per the approved Fresno County Bretz Mill Village Specific Plan. Road will eventually be turned over to Fresno County.

The Courtney fire of 2014 killed the majority of trees in the fire perimeter. Numerous snags of various sizes are present throughout the fire area. Pine stands that vegetated the fire area have been converted to pine snags. The fire created hazardous
This proposal would manage WUI to provide a higher level of safety from wildfire to residences and businesses and manage trees, vegetation, and fuel beds to improve resilience.

PGE and Ponderosa Telephone are proposing changes to the established communications site. The tower will be replaced, with the additions of a new building and solar panels. The purpose is for enhanced internal communications for PGE.
Ponderosa Telephone will be providing new service to the Forest Service's Fence Meadow Lookout Tower. A new service cable will be installed underground.
This Project will consist of stabilization of the rock talus and debris slide via installation of a cable net drapery system, and removal of rock talus and debris from below the origination point of the slide.
The project will provide line officers of the SNF to use discretion to modify the seasonal designation for a road, trail or area to address unpredictable conditions such as no rainfall, heavy rain or snowfall, fire danger or flooding.

Fresno/Madera Counties are proposing to replace Italian Bar Bridge crossing the San Joaquin River. The existing bridge is 241 feet long and 12 feet wide between the railings and is classified as both structurally deficient and functionally obsolete.
The Forest Service was a cooperating agency, assisting the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in that Agency's geothermal leasing analysis and decision. The BLM issued a record of decision on 12/17/2008.
The purpose of the project will be to: Reduce fuel ladders and ground fuels in a wildland urban interface area, increase vigor and health of mixed conifer stands, restore key ecological watershed components, and restore wildlife structures/habitat.
PG&E is proposing to remove dead and live hazard trees along their Haas Woodchuck 70 kilovolt transmission line. They experience outages every winter due to trees/limbs falling onto the line.

To issue a special use permit (lease) to Horizon Tower for the existing Miami Mountain communications site previously owned and operated by California Sierra Tower Company. Work is administrative only. No ground disturbance will occur.
Realignment of a section of the Hoseshoe Bend Trail, including construction of a 3-foot-wide trail beginning at the exiting unimproved parking and staging area at County Road 235 and FS 9S75 and extending along the hillside.

PG&E is proposing to replace a 70kV switch with a new circuit breaker to improve electric reliability throughout the region. To accommodate this project they need to construct a new access for trucks and expand the footprint of the switchyard.
PG&E has an ongoing problem with burrowing rodents at their Balch, Haas, and Kings River FERC authorized facilities. They are requesting the use of Diphacinone, a rodenticide previously approved for use at their Helms and Crane Valley facilities.

The Sierra National Forest would approve a special use permit for the installation of one fiber optic cable in a conduit of less than 2 inches for a distance of less than ½ mile (1800 feet) with a right of way of 20 feet across to Camp GM.
