Doe Flat Trail
Access this trail via the eastern part of Smith River National Recreation Area. The trail is in the Siskiyou Wilderness. The trail descends along an old road for 0.6 miles to a trail which gently climbs to the junctions with the Buck Lake Trail and the Devil's Punchbowl Trail. The Doe Flat Trailhead begins at 3,400 feet elevation, and climbs to a height of 4,700 feet at Devil’s Punchbowl where trees give way to subalpine scrub and breezes cool the air.
Most of this trail is on the Klamath National Forest.

No
There are no wet-season Port Orford cedar gate closures that limit access to the trailhead from the north (off of Highway 199 via FS Route 16, also known as FS 17N05, Little Jones Creek Road, and the Jawbone Road); however, the road is usually blocked by snow during the wet season, generally November through mid-June, rarely into July. There is an administrative gate on 16/17N05 at 8.5 miles from Hwy 199 that may be closed due to hazardous conditions (such as black ice) or road work. Trailhead access from the south via FS 16/16N02 (Ship Mountain area) is limited by gate closures due to snow and Port Orford Cedar root disease during the wet season, generally mid-October through mid-June (rarely into July).
Getting There
Directions
From HWY 199 take Little Jones Creek Road, just north of Patrick Creek Resort. Follow the blacktop about 15 miles to the Bear Basin turnoff (14N04). Turn left and follow the winding, gravel road to the low quality Siskiyou Pass Road. Turn left again and proceed to the parking area at the Wilderness boundary. If you reach the South Fork of the Smith, you’ve missed the Siskiyou Pass turnoff.
