Bear Valley Trailhead

Bear Valley Trailhead provides access to:

You will enter Mt. Jefferson Wilderness shortly after leaving the trailhead. Wilderness Permits are required. See "Permit Info" below for more details.

General Information

There are two types of entry permits required between June 15 and October 15 for entering the Mt. Jefferson Wilderness from this trailhead.
  • Overnight Use
  • Day Use
    • Free, self-issue Wilderness Permit (available at the trailhead) between June 15 and October 15.

  • Wilderness restrictions apply in the Mt. Jefferson Wilderness.
  • Pamelia Lake – No camping within 100 feet of high-water mark of lake or any other water source
  • Campfires are prohibited above 5,700 feet and within these lake basins:
    • Marion Lake
    • Ann Lake
    • Table Lake
  • Motorized and mechanical equipment (including bicycles and drones) are prohibited in the Wilderness
  • Groups must be under 12 people and 12 head of stock
  • Build campfires at least 100 feet away from water
  • Pack in / Pack out!
  • “Take only pictures, leave only footprints” — please refrain from cutting, damaging, or gathering vegetation or other forest items (e.g. rocks, artifacts, etc.)
  • Please bury human waste 6-8 inches deep and at least 200 feet away from water

Directions

From Sisters, OR -
Drive west on U.S. Highway 20 for 12 miles and turn right on Jack Lake Road (state Highway 12). After 4.4 miles, turn left on Forest Road 1230 and in 1.6 miles bear left onto Forest Road 1234. Continue for 0.8 mile and turn right onto Forest Road 1235. The trailhead is 4 miles down the road, at the end of a roundabout.
