Youth Engagement Programs

Our Community Engagement team works with local communities to facilitate meaningful experiences on and around National Forest lands.

Every Kid Outdoors

4th grade classes through the Greater Seattle Area visit their forest as a part of our Every Kid Outdoors programming. These field trips include Eagle Watching Experiences, Snowshoe Trips, and Campground Explorations.

“Field trips like these make the classroom learning authentic. Our Ranger took classroom book learning and made it real for the students. It was wonderful to see students problem solve and engineer projects in the snow while playing with kids they typically don't play with on the playground.” - 4th grade teacher from Sanislo Elementary

“Many of my students don't get the opportunity to have experiences like this outside of school, this is such a wonderful way for them to experience something like going to the mountains and snowshoeing, with the added benefit of learning about their surrounding environment and how organisms work together within ecosystems.” - 4th grade teacher from Viewlands Elementary

Summer Stewardship Crews

The Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie works with community organizations in the Greater Seattle Area and Puget Sound to provide multi-day stewardship experiences during the summertime. Youth gain experience working in multiple different program areas with USFS staff, build new skills, and complete meaningful stewardship projects or trail work.

“My parents were always so busy with work and providing for my brother and I, so I never would have gotten the opportunity to explore the Pacific Northwest. Not only do I explore the national forests on my own now, I also bring my parents along… It provided educational and important lessons I wouldn’t have been able to learn in a classroom.”  - Youth Participant

“I enjoyed the freedom and shared responsibility because we were functioning well as a team. The most meaningful part to me was the connections and conversations.” - Youth Participant
