Squak Climbing Route
Begin in the Mt. Baker National Recreation Area at the Park Butte Trail 603 and junction off to the Scott Paul Trail 603.1 after 100 feet from the trailhead. Climb through lush green forest and wind around the base of Mt. Baker through rock gardens, meadows and glacial moraines with magnificent views.
After a few miles the route branches north at an unmarked junction and continues along a steep climbers route to the base of the glacier at Crag View.
Like the Boulder Glacier Climbing Route, Squak is limited to early season climbing because of a bergshrund that develops along the route as the season progresses and temperatures rise.
The Squak Glacier Route is in the Mt. Baker National Recreation Area and the Mt. Baker Wilderness.

Most climbers camp at Craig View, 6,500 feet.
Toilet facilities are not available on this route. Please pack-it-out.
Snowmobilers use the Mt. Baker National Recreation Area until late spring or early summer. Climbers using the Easton or Squak route during May-early July will likely encounter them in the non-wilderness portion of the route.
The Squak Glacier Route is within Mt. Baker National Recreation Area and Mt. Baker Wilderness where wilderness regulations apply.
- Campfires are prohibited.
- Group size is limited to 12 people when you leave the Mt. Baker NRA and enter the Mt. Baker Wilderness.
- Camping below 6,000 feet is prohibited.
A valid Recreation Pass is required at Park Butte Trailhead.

Directions
Access via Park Butte Trailhead: from the Mt. Baker Ranger District office in Sedro-Woolley, WA follow State Route 20 east for 16 miles to milepost 82. Turn left (north) on the Baker Lake Highway (Forest Service Road 11). Continue on at mile 12, turn left on Forest Service Road 12. Travel 3.6 miles to the junction of Forest Service Road 13. Stay to right and follow FS Road 13 for 5.3 miles. The trailhead is located at the end of FS Road 13.
