Biking
Hundreds of miles of forest roads, paved scenic routes and byways, and mountain trails provide a variety of opportunities to view the spectacular scenery across the forest.
E-Biking
The Umatilla National Forest offers over 2,090 miles of roads and over 256 miles of trails open to motorized recreation.
Here are a few guidelines for riding e-bikes on the Forest:
- E-bikes are prohibited on non-motorized trails, including trails open to bicycles.
- Vehicles, including e-bikes, are not allowed to travel beyond gates or barriers.
- E-bike travel in designated Wilderness, Recommended Wilderness and Wilderness Study Areas is not allowed.
- Temporary and emergency closure orders may be implemented when road and trail conditions are considered unsafe (e.g., soft wet roads, washouts, fire).
Mountain Biking
From single track mountain bikers to family bike adventures, you'll will find a variety of biking opportunities on the Forest's roads and trails. The only allocation that restricts mountain bikes is Designated Wilderness Areas. Trail opportunities range from hiking, horseback riding and mountain bike to off highway vehicle use. Some trails combine various uses so expect other travelers depending on the type of use.
Road Cycling
Road cyclist and cross-country trekkers have enjoyed the variety and challenges of the road system in northeast Oregon and southeast Washington. There are several two-lane blacktop routes connecting portions of the Forest. Traffic is light to moderate, but you may experience increased traffic during hunting or fire seasons.
