Emigrant Fire

The Emigrant Fire was ignited by lightning on August 24, 2025, in a remote area of the Middle Fork Ranger District on the Willamette National Forest. Driven by hot, dry and windy conditions, the fire grew quickly within the 2009 Tumblebug Fire scar. The Tumblebug Fire scar presented steep slopes, standing and downed snags, and brushy fuels that led to rapid fire growth. Firefighters implemented an indirect containment strategy, using roads around the fire area. Suppression and contingency lines were completed across multiple jurisdictions, with fire spread contained within the Willamette National Forest. The Emigrant Fire burned a total of 33,127 acres, including the entirety of the 2009 Tumblebug Fire area.
