District Stand Density Management and Conifer Pruning

Stand density management and conifer pruning in young plantations on about 5,700 acres across the district. Stand density management will be done at a prescribed spacing, leaving 50 ft . riparian buffers on streams, thinning excess trees, and cutting competing vegetation where prescribed. Conifer pruning will be done at a prescribed spacing, selecting the best trees and using hand tools to remove lower limbs to a height of 10 to 26 ft. In the Staley Creek portion of the project, stand density management will not leave a riparian buffer to improve watershed conditions.
