Washburn Ranger District Recreation and Visitor Service 2025 Updates

  • Birch Grove Campground updates include the conversion of two single sites into two double sites, sites 5 and 6. These have two fire rings, two picnic tables, and space for two RVs to camp. The nightly camping fee is $30 rather than $15 for these double sites.
  • Wanoka Lake Campground is open as of today, July 1st following updates such as revamping a vault toilet, well improvements, converting a site into a campground host site, and resurfacing the road. This summer there are campground hosts present on-site for the first time!
  • Two Lakes Campground is now being directly managed by district Forest Service staff rather than by a concessionaire, so visitors can expect a few minor changes in how the campground operates. The concessionaire offered boat rentals and other amenities for purchase, which we do not. About 40% of the sites remain first-come-first serve and about 60% of the sites remain reservable through recreation.gov.
  • Birch Grove Campground, Wanoka Lake Campground, and Perch Lake Campground now accept reservations through recreation.gov. For each campground, about 40% of the sites remain first-come-first-serve and about 60% of the sites are reservable. You can view which sites are first-come-first-serve versus which are reservable on recreation.gov. Reservations can only be made as soon as 4 days in advance to allow our staff time to post the reservation notice, therefore some reservable sites may be "temporarily available as a first-come-first-serve site".
  • Birch Grove Reservation Sites: 1, 4, 5, 8, 9, 10, 12, 14, 15, 16.
  • FCFS: 2, 3, 6, 7, 11, 13
  • Wanoka Lake Reservation Sites: 1, 3, 6, 7, 9, 10, 13, 15, 17.
  • FCFS: 2, 4, 5, 8, 11, 12, 14, 16, 18
  • Perch Lake Reservation Sites: 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 14, 15, 16.
  • FCFS: 1, 2, 5, 6, 10, 11, 12
  • Two Lakes page provides the reservation link but could use some updating in the description as the site is no longer being managed by a concessionaire and less amenities are provided as a result.
