Wasted Trees on the Plot

If the planters are overplanting, they can be charged for wasted trees. In some cases, they will plant trees too tightly in some areas to compensate for poor quality on other parts of the unit. While the contract may allow for slightly more than the desired number of trees (generally 10 to 15 percent more), no more trees are allowed than the maximum specified in the contract. If, after adjusting for unplantable spots, a plot has more trees than are allowed, check to see whether there has been a spacing violation. Even if there is no spacing violation, there can still be more trees on the plot than allowed. Record the excess trees (the actual number of trees planted minus the maximum number of trees allowed) as wasted trees, even if no individual tree violates the spacing requirements. This can happen if all trees are planted at 75 percent of the spacing.
