Status update June 29, 2020 - Trails and trailheads are open. Restrooms and garbage receptacles are available at picnic areas, beaches and trailheads. Fees will be charged at sites that are open and have full services.

The Forest is open for dispersed camping and devloped dispersed sites are now open. Please note that some developed dispersed campsites in the Lakewood-Laona Ranger District remain closed due the July 2019 blowdown.

Opening July 1 on a first-come, first-served basis; reservations honored starting July 1:

  • Sailor Lake Recreation Area

Opening July 1 on a first-come, first-served basis; reservations honored starting July 1; however, no showers will be available in the restroom facilities and some finishing construction work in Bass Loop may still be underway, however, sites will be open and available for use:

  • Chippewa Recreation Area

Opening July 1 on a first-come, first-served basis; reservations honored starting July 1; Some construction work may prevent access to individual camp sites, if your site reservation will be impacted by construction the Forest will contact you and provide instructions to obtain an alternative site:

  • Namekagon Lake Recreation Lake

Opening July 2 on a first-come, first-served basis; some storm damage clean-up will be continuing after opening.

  • Boot Lake Campground

All additional campgrounds remain closed until further notice. Reservable sites will be cancelled and refunded through July 16. If circumstances change, and additional campgrounds are opened prior to July 16, reservable sites may be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Forest Supervisor’s order limiting the size of groups of 10 people or less per group across the entire Forest remains in place until further notice. In alignment with this, recreation event special use permits, large gatherings and the Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center and Forest Lodge will remain closed.
