TREES FOR GOOD: Upcoming World Wood Day features Rocky Mountain Research Station scientists
At the Rocky Mountain Research Station (RMRS), we are excited to participate in this year’s virtual World Wood Day celebration. Hosted by the International Wood Culture Society (IWCS) and the World Wood Day Foundation, the World Wood Day celebration provides a unique opportunity for RMRS researchers to share science related to fire in the western U.S. The 2022 World Wood Day celebration will be held Monday, March 21.
Marking the tenth annual celebration, this year’s World Wood Day theme is “Trees for Good,” a continuation of the 2021 theme, “CO2 & Wood,” and a spin-off of “Wood is Good.” The sub-theme, “Challenges, Opportunities, Sustainability,” relates to life, social heritage, industry, and the environment. In anticipation of the event, RMRS recordings on various fire topics are available online. Video topics include wildfire management, wildfire and climate, and the wildland/urban interface. On March 21, World Wood Day 2022, RMRS researchers will continue to share their work on wildfire science and wildfire management in the western United States. Through these educational opportunities, the World Wood Day celebration aims to inspire more profound conversations about wildfire.
The World Wood Day Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. One of their missions is to raise public awareness of wood as an eco-friendly, renewable biomaterial. Additionally, the World Wood Day Foundation strives to promote academic research and the responsible use of wood for a sustainable future. World Wood Day is hosted by Momo Hsaio, IWCS producer, and Mr. Steve Ambrose, retired Forest Service employee and IWCS volunteer. Joining them will be RMRS science delivery specialist Jessica Brewen.
RMRS scientist recordings featured in this World Wood Day event are the following:
- Wildland/Urban Interface (WUI): Insights from Social Science and Human Dimensions Research with Dr. Jeffrey Morisette and Dr. Sarah McCaffrey
