WASHINGTON, DC—The U.S. Department of Agriculture Timber Policy Management Team will provide a webinar overview about the most recent updates to policy directives on June 8, 11 to 11:30 a.m. Eastern time.

The Forest Service recently issued several amendments to directives pertaining to the sale and disposal of forest products. The publication of Batch 2C is the latest in a series of updates that are being made to the 2400 Code Timber Management Manual and Handbooks. Additional updates will be issued as the revision process is completed.

The updates to Batch 2C address the following Forest Service policies:

  • Brush Disposal Fund Collections, Costs, and Accounting
  • Timber Sale Pipeline Restoration Fund
  • Salvage Sale Fund Collections, Costs and Accounting

The updates are being made to address timber sale processes and policies that were put in place years ago, and to reflect current forest conditions and forest products markets. The amendments address changes in authorities granted by U.S. Congress, and add policies and direction designed to improve efficiency and increase the pace of forest restoration.

Through a comprehensive review of all 2400 series Timber Management directives, the Forest Service identified 55 chapters within 14 handbooks and manuals that needed updating, streamlining or re-organization. Due to the large volume of this work, updates are being released on a rolling basis.

Batch 1 and Batch 2A were published in 2021.
