WASHINGTON, DC—Smokey Bear Awards are given each year to people or organizations providing outstanding service in wildfire prevention. To receive one is a high honor. Do you know someone who's made an invaluable contribution to wildfire prevention? Nominate them for an award through Dec. 15, 2022.

There are many people throughout the Forest Service and partners who have made significant contributions to the prevention of unwanted human-caused fires. This is a great opportunity to recognize them for their dedication and accomplishments. Eligibility for the awards includes individuals or organizations that make outstanding contributions in wildfire prevention efforts including, but not limited to, educational activities, forest management, law enforcement, journalism, media coverage, advertising campaigns, engineering activities and informational programs. Having wildfire prevention duties as a part of one’s official job does not make a person ineligible.

All nominations for the 2023 Smokey Bear Awards must adhere to this criteria and be submitted using this online form through Dec. 15, 2022. Contact your regional fire prevention coordinator for assistance.

The Smokey Bear Awards began in the mid-1950s. The awards program is run by the USDA Forest Service, National Association of State Foresters and Ad Council. Together, these partners make up the Cooperative Forest Fire Prevention Committee.
