Biological Science Technician (Fish & Wildlife)

As a Biological Science Technician (Bio Tech) with a focus on fish and wildlife, you’ll assist in a variety of activities from gathering data to planning and coordinating projects related to the fisheries and wildlife program. You’ll have the opportunity to survey areas to determine species presence, population abundance or density, and assess and evaluate aquatic habitats. Based off of the data you collect, you’ll provide input on planning annual fisheries and wildlife program of work as well as leading wildlife, watershed, and fisheries projects. You’ll be responsible for supporting the wise use of natural resources along with managing, rehabilitating, and enhancing habitats for fish and wildlife species that occupy our National Forests.

Biological Science Technician (Insects & Disease)

Biological Science Technicians (Bio Techs) with a focus on Insects and Disease help to protect the health of National Forests and Grasslands by managing diseases and pests. They spend a lot of their time working outdoors in remote areas to identify and collect insects and samples. Their work is diverse. They may also create control plots, tests, or even spend time flying in small planes while conducting ariel surveys. Some Bio Techs may work in laboratories, have administrative duties, supervise other staff, create and manage projects, or use computer software to manage and analyze complex data and reports. Safety is their top priority.

A Day in the Life: Biological Science Technician
Archeologists

As an Archeologist, you’ll protect culture resources on our National Forests while allowing for present land use needs. Culture resources can be many different things such as Indian burial grounds, artifacts from the past, fossil beds, and rock paintings. You’ll be able to give advice on identifying and how to take care of culture resources, investigate culture resources and culture resource areas, keep an inventory of cultural sites, determine if a site could be eligible to be put on the National Register of Historic Places, give presentations to the public and others about cultural resources, and much more.
