Advisory Committees

Welcome to the Lassen National Forest Resource Advisory Committee web page. This is the home page for the Lassen County RACs. These RACs review project proposals for the Lassen National Forest.

Congress signed Public Law 110-343 on October 3, 2008. The Law addresses funds received on Federal land, which have historically been shared with counties. These funds have been used for schools and roads. The law allows counties to receive a payment from the Federal government based on the average of their years of payments from Federal lands.

The Act established the committees consisting of 15 local citizens representing a broad array of backgrounds, interests, and experiences. The Committee recommends projects to the Forest Service to be conducted on Forest Service system lands, or that will benefit resources on Forest Service system lands.

Project Proposal

Since its’ creation, the RAC has helped fund numerous projects in Lassen County.  Projects recommended by the RAC typically include trails reconstruction and maintenance, fish passage and waterway restoration, community wildfire fuels reduction efforts, conservation education programs, and noxious weed reduction efforts. Though projects may occur on both National Forest System and private lands in Lassen County, All RAC projects must show a clear benefit to the public lands.
