Flathead National Forest Fire Information Contact: (406)755-3910 or (406)754-4620 Current Status Firefighters are slowly making gains on containing the Crazy Horse Fire with the fire making a modest growth of about 300 acres each day. The fire is 9,926 acres and is 20 percent contained. Yesterday, the fire received minimal amounts of rain raising the relative humidity (rh), however the RH levels remain at a critical range for this area. The fire is expected to be very active today, with torching and spotting in unburned islands. Smoke will be a factor as temperatures rise and may affect air operations. Firefighting efforts will also continue to focus on structure protection while improving and holding existing fire line. No structures have been destroyed or damaged. The lightning-caused Crazy Horse Fire began on August 8th, 2003. Currently, there are 627 personnel assigned to the incident. Yesterday, Information Officers hosted over 75 community members on (2) Camp tours. Due to the high interest, officers will again be giving a community tour of the Camp at 10:00, this morning and at 8:00 tonight. Last night, more than 100 residents attended an information community meeting held at the Swan Elementary School. Evacuation Situation Update These changes are effective Wednesday, August 20, 2003.
