Rabbit Gulch Trail (# 20)

Rabbit Gulch Trail (# 20) is 8.0 miles long and leads to the Lake Plateau. Elevation change: 2600 feet. The trail is open for the following uses: hiking, horseback riding.

*Please be aware that travelling in the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness comes with additional regulations. Please know what is expected of visitors before entering the wilderness.

  • Wilderness boundary: 5 miles
  • Lake Plateau Stillwater Plateau: 8 miles

Directions from district office:
Drive north on US Hwy 212 for 2.1 miles. Turn left (west) onto MT-78 and drive 30 miles. Turn left (west) onto MT-419 towards Fishtail. Drive through Nye and for a total of 25.9 miles. Immediately after the Stillwater Mine, turn right (west) onto the West Fork Stillwater Rd (forest road 2846). Drive 5.3 miles and turn left on Forest Road 28465. Drive a very short distance to the trailhead. There is very little parking and there is room for small horse trailers, though drivers are advised to scout the area on foot before pulling in.

*Be advised that the West Fork of the Stillwater Rd is rocky. High clearance vehicles are advised and horse trailers will find this road tough to travel.
