Forest Order

Pursuant to Title 16, U.S.C. § 551 and 36 C.F.R § 261.50(a), the following act is prohibited within the Boulder Ranger District of the Roosevelt National Forest, Boulder County, State of Colorado, hereinafter referred to as the Restricted Areas as depicted on Exhibit A on the attached map, hereby incorporated into this Order. The purpose of this Order is to provide for the protection of public health and safety. 

The Restricted Areas are defined as: Closure 1: James Canyon Shooting Closure Area National Forest System lands one quarter mile on either side of James Canyon Drive (County Rd. 94) from the Forest Boundary to Colorado State Highway 72. These lands are found in T. 2 N. R. 71 W. sections 19, 27, 28, 29, 30, 33, 34; T. 2 N. R. 72 W. sections 13, 14, 15, 20, 21, 22, 24, 25. Closure 2: Lefthand Canyon Shooting Area Closure National Forest System lands one quarter mile on either side of Lefthand Canyon Drive (County Rds. 81, 106, and 95) from the intersection of County Rd. 94 and 81 west to Colorado State Highway 72. These lands are found in T. 2 N, R. 71 W. sections 27, 28, 32, 33, 34; T. 1 N, R. 72 W. sections 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 9, 10, 17, 18; T. 1 N, R. 73 W. section 13. Closure 3: Mount Alto Shooting Area Closure National Forest System lands from Lefthand Canyon Drive (County Road 106) south to County Road 93 in the Mount Alto Picnic Area and the Lookout Rock area. These lands are found in T. 1 N, R. 72 W. sections 9, 10, 15, 16. Closure 4: Sugarloaf Shooting Area Closure National Forest System lands from County Road 118 to one-quarter mile south of County Road 120J in the Sugar Loaf area containing the National Forest System Road (NFSR) 237 and its associated road network. These lands are found in T. 1 N, R. 72 W. sections 21, 22, 26, 27, 28 and 34. Closure 5: Lefthand Canyon OHV Area Shooting Area Closure National Forest System lands one quarter mile on either side of Lefthand Canyon Drive and James Canyon Drive (County Road 94) and within the Lefthand and Canyon OHV Area north of Lefthand Canyon Drive and James Canyon Drive (County Road 94). These lands are found in T. 2 N., R. 71 W., sections 15, 16, 17, 20, 21, 22, 27, 28, 29, 33, 34. 

PROHIBITED ACT: • Discharging a firearm, air rifle or gas gun in the Restricted Areas. 36 C.F.R. § 261.58 (m). ORDER No. ARP-BRD-2016-02 

EXEMPTIONS: Pursuant to 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this order: 1. Persons with a USDA Forest Service permit specifically authorizing the otherwise prohibited act or omission. 2. Any Federal, State or local officer or member of any organized rescue or firefighting force engaged in the performance of an official duty. 3. Any person possessing a valid Colorado hunting license lawfully involved in hunting and harvesting game. 4. Any person using a paintball gun. 

This Order supersedes, rescinds and replaces Order # ARP-BRD-2016-01 signed on January 22, 2016 This Order will be in effect when signed and shall remain in effect until rescinded.
