Pursuant to 36 CFR, Section 261.50 (a), the following acts are prohibited within the Indian Peaks Wilderness Area, Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests until further notice:
I. CAMPING A. Camping in all areas from June 1 to September 15 except when authorized by permit. 36 CFR 261.58(e). B. Camping in Caribou, Crater, Diamond and Jasper Lakes travel zones, except in designated campsites, from May 1 to November 30. Tents must be within 30 feet of the campsite marker. 36 CFR 261.58(e). C. Camping within 100 feet of all lakes, streams, and developed trails except for designated campsites and other areas as posted. 36 CFR 261.58(e). D. Camping from May 1 through November 30 within the Four Lakes travel zone as shown on the attached map. 36 CFR 261.58(e).
II. FIRES A. Building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire or campfire (other than in a self contained chemical stove) east of the Continental Divide. 36 CFR 261.52(a). B. Building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire or campfire (other than a self contained chemical stove) west of the Continental Divide at Gourd, Pawnee, Caribou, Columbine and Crater Lakes, and in the Upper Cascade Creek Drainage as shown on the attached map. 36 CFR 261.52(a). C. Building, maintaining, or using a fire or campfire, where permitted, within 100 feet of lakes, streams or trails. 36 CFR 261.52(a).
III. Pets Possessing or transporting pets except on a hand-held leash. 36 CFR 261.58(s). Order No. 10-00-07 Page 2 of 2
IV. Recreation Livestock A. Possessing, storing or transporting any type of saddle, pack or draft animals in the Four Lakes travel zone, and in the Cascade travel zone above Cascade Falls. 36 CFR 261.58(s). B. Possessing, storing or transporting any type of saddle, pack or draft animals on the Diamond Lake Trail. 36 CFR 261.58(s). C. Possessing or storing hobbled, tethered or picketed livestock within 100 feet of all lakes, streams or developed trails. 36 CFR 261.58(s). D. Possessing or transporting unprocessed plant material such as hay, straw, or other unprocessed livestock feed for bedding, feeding, or other uses. 36 CFR 261.58(t).
V. Vehicles Possessing or using a wagon, cart, or vehicle. 36 CFR 261.57(h).
VI. Organized Groups And Commercial Outfitters A. Entering or being in the Wilderness area. 36 CFR 261.57(a). B. Entering or being in the Wilderness area with groups larger then a combination of 12 persons and/or livestock. 36 CFR 261.58(f).
Pursuant to 36 CFR, Sec 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from the order: 1. Persons with a permit specifically authorizing the otherwise prohibited act or omission. 2. Any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or firefighting force in the performance of an official duty. 3. Hunters are exempt from the dog leash regulation when possessing hunting dogs while legally hunting. Order No. 10-00-07 Page 3 of 3 4. Persons with disabilities using assistive devices or aids, in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (PL 101-336). {An assistive device is a piece of equipment used by a person with a disability on a daily basis to help in the accomplishment of one of life's major functions or activities, such as a wheelchair. A wheelchair is defined in the American's with Disabilities Act to be "a device designed solely for use by a mobility-impaired person for locomotion, that is suitable for use in an indoor pedestrian area" [Sec. 507 (c)(2)]. Wheelchair may be motorized or nonmotorized.}
