Buchanan Pass (#2)

Begin at the Monarch Lake Trailhead on the Cascade Creek Trail (#1). At the junction, take the trail left for Buchanan Pass. After 0.75 miles, the path becomes level with the creek. The next mile to the Gourd Lake Trail (#2) turnoff is a gradual climb paralleling the creek. Fox Park is past the turnoff for the Gourd Lake Trail. The trail climbs the remaining two miles, emerging onto alpine tundra. The trail continues to steepen as several switchbacks lead up to the last rocky slope of Buchanan Pass.
