Geospatial Data
Geospatial data is information that describes objects or other features with a location on or near the surface of earth. The Forest Service uses geospatial data for a wide range of applications, including land management, resource monitoring, wildfire risk assessment, and public access planning, which enables us to use informed decision-making and efficient resource allocation. The Forest Service has configured an open data site to help our partners, and the public discover geospatial data published by the Agency.
Hydrographic Data
The National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) and Watershed Boundary Dataset (WBD) are digital geospatial datasets that map the surface water of the United States and are a part of The National Map. The NHD was mapped at 1:24,000 or larger scale (1:63,360 or larger scale in Alaska). These data were updated and maintained through Stewardship partnerships with states and other collaborative bodies. The NHD, Watershed Boundary Dataset (WBD), and 3D Elevation Program (3DEP) data were used to create the NHDPlus High Resolution.
FS Geodata Clearinghouse
The USDA Forest Service Geodata Clearinghouse is an online collection of digital data related to forest resources. Through the Clearinghouse you can find datasets related to forests and grasslands, including boundaries and ownership, natural resources, roads and trails, as well as datasets related to State and private forested areas, including insect and disease threat and surface water importance. You can also find downloadable map products, raster data, and links to other sources of forest resource information.
