Scenic Drives

There are a number of scenic byways and scenic backroads in and around the forest. These routes, as well as other less formally designated routes provide travelers an opportunity to experience the abundant natural beauty of the Fishlake National Forest and central Utah.

Scenic Driving

  • Fishlake Scenic Byway runs through the Fish Lake Basin at an elevation of 8,850 feet. The byway runs from SR-24 to SR-72, past Fish Lake and Johnson Valley Reservoir. Fall is glorious along the byway, as the various shades of red, orange, and yellow brighten the aspen-covered mountains. As snow blankets the forests and glades, snowshoers and cross-country skiers can find a peaceful solitude throughout the mountains. More information can be found here.

  • Beaver Canyon Scenic Byway - Beaver Canyon Scenic Byway (Highway 153) climbs from the town of Beaver into the Tushar Mountains and Fishlake National Forest. The scenic byway ends after about 17 miles of forest and mountain driving to a high point at Eagle Point Ski Area. This drive continues the route east, descending to Junction in the Sevier River Valley. From Junction, the drive turns north on U.S. 89 along the scenic Sevier River to the junction with I-70. While traveling the route, note the clean mountain air, stream laced forest and the unique heritage of the Beaver County Area. Be sure to visit the nearby cities of Beaver, Junction and Marysvale to stock up on supplies or shop locally. In your trip include a visit to the Territorial Statehouse State Park Museum and the Fremont Indian State Park and Museum. This scenic byway also leads to many of Utah's major national parks such as Great Basin, Bryce Canyon, and Zion National Park. More information can be found here.
