The Forest Service follows NEPA regulations issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Under this rule, Forest Service officials determine which proposed projects are shared for public input.

The agency no longer issues a schedule of proposed actions (SOPA) report. Below is the current list of proposed projects available for review—your opportunity to learn more, share feedback, and stay engaged in decisions that shape the future of our public lands.

Cleveland National Forest Projects

This project will demolish two aged living quarters buildings at the Descanso Fire Station and rebuild one new living quarters building in the same place as one of the demolished buildings. A new septic system will be installed for the new building.

This project will utilize more than one native Jeffrey Pine seed source from within it's natural distribution range for reforestation to adjust for projected climate conditions. Project work will occur on approximately 97 acres near Filaree Flat.

This project is designed to support Fireshed Risk Reduction and Climate-Adapted Conservation through treatments for Reforestation, Post-Wildfire Forest Health, Pre-Wildfire Forest Health, Prescribed Fire and Hazardous Fuels Reduction.

The Trabuco Ranger District intends to extend the North Main Divide fuel break to include the North Sierra Peak area. This would increase the defensible landscape and firefighter access. Work would include vegetation removal and prescribed burning.

Orange County Public Works (OCPW) and their contractors will remove all post-fire debris and hazardous materials from 35 burnt cabins in Holy Jim and Trabuco Canyons. Replacement of the current septic system and grease trap associated with The Outpost which is operated under a Special Use Permit with the Cleveland National Forest. A new 1,000 gallon grease trap and 1500 gallon septic will be installed.

Existing Barracks at Oak Grove and Goose Valley stations will be demolished and a new modular buildings will be installed. Failing septic systems will be replaced. Parking capacity will be expanded at the Goose Valley station.

This project will analyze a historic grazing allotment that is not currently authorized for viability of grazing approximately 150 head months.

The Trabuco Ranger District intends to complete repair and reconstruction work on the West Horsethief and Trabuco Canyon trails. These trails have been closed to the public due to significant damage from wildfires.
