How to report a fire:
If you have an emergency, please call 911.
The Shasta-Trinity National Forest, in conjunction with numerous other state, county, and local fire control organizations, maintains a constant state of readiness for incident response. If you believe you’ve spotted a new fire, and/or want to report a fire, please call 911. They will notify and dispatch the appropriate personnel.
Current Activity Levels and Restrictions
For information on the daily fire restrictions, call the Forest Service Fuelwood Recording at:
(866) 242-9941 or (530) 226-2457 and listen for the Project Activity Level (PAL).
Fuelwood Cutters and Service Contracts use the Project Activity Level System (PAL)
Fuelwood Permit Requirements
- Chainsaws and all other internal combustion engines must have an approved spark arrester.
- An approved fire extinguisher and shovel with an overall length of 46 inches is required in the immediate area.
- In addition to the requirements listed in #1 and #2 above, the following additional restrictions apply to fuelwood cutting by Project Activity Level (PAL). See fuelwood recording information below.
PAL Levels
- A, B, C: No additional permit restrictions
- D: No fuelwood cutting after 1:00 pm.
- Ev/E: No fuelwood cutting at any time.
- This permit is void when an emergency fire closure is enacted.
Timber Sale Contracts
Use the Activity Level System specified in individual contracts. This is either Sale Activity Level (SAL) or Project Activity Level (PAL). Contractors must follow their contract specified Activity Level requirements. **Some areas of the forest are still under forest closures, check your local areas for details***
