Biking: The Shasta-Trinity National Forest is a bicycling and mountain biking paradise. The Waters Gulch Trail, Fish Loop Trail and Dry Fork Creek Trail, located at Shasta Lake, offer single track trails for bikers. The Clikapudi Trail, with its new advanced mountain biking loop is a popular hot spot for mountain biking. Waters Gulch and Bailey Cove trails also offer mountain biking opportunities. Trails at Shasta Lake are open all year, but it is best to bike them in the spring and fall.
Horse riding and camping: Going on horseback with pack animals into the wilderness can be a wonderful experience. You and your stock will enjoy some of the most beautiful scenery anywhere in Northern California.
Picnicking: Come enjoy a scenic overlook at one of our many picnic areas along the Trintiy River, Shasta Lake, McCloud Falls, South Fork Trinity River, or immerse yourself in the woods at one of our forested picnic sites.
Winter sports: The Shasta-Trinity National Forest is home to numerous winter sports. Skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling and more are all available.
Climbing and caving: There are many variations of climbing available on the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. Some of these climbing techniques include bouldering, sport climbing, rock climbing, and mountain climbing.
Hunting, fishing and shooting: The Shasta-Trinity National Forest has a variety of game species for hunters to test their skills against. Since the seasons and hunting requirements vary according to species. Trout and small mouth bass are the most sought after game fish on the forest. Shasta, Trinity and Lewiston Lakes offer rainbow and brown trout and small mouth bass. The McCloud, Upper Sacramento and Trinity Rivers are world renowned as excellent trout streams. In addition to these more popular areas, the Forest has hundreds of more "out-of-the-way" lakes and streams where you can spend a quiet day or two angling.
Scenic drives: There are three Nationally designated scenic byways on the Shasta Trinity National Forest. They include the Trinity Scenic Byway, the Trinity Heritage Scenic Byway and the Modoc Volcano National Scenic Byway.
Hiking: There are many opportunities for general use hiking and wilderness backpacking as well as hiking along designated National Scenic and Recreation Trails. Perhaps the most well-known of the designated trails is the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) which winds its way through the Shasta-Trinity on its route from Mexico to Canada. The is also the Sisson-Callahan National Recreation Trail and the South Fork National Recreation Trail, and numerous day hiking opportunities.
Off Highway Vehicles (OHV): There are many opportunities on the Shasta-Trinity National Forest for OHV riding. This diverse forest offers a variety of opportunities for many different skill levels and types of riding.
