SHASTA-TRINITY NATIONAL FOREST — Wildland firefighters continued to make significant progress Saturday on both the Horse and Helena Fires, a testament to their relentless work, training, and teamwork on the fireline.

On the Horse Fire, crews increased containment from 12% Saturday morning to 60% by the afternoon. This major accomplishment reflects a full day of strategic, boots-on-the-ground firefighting. Using GPS to confirm fire boundaries, firefighters have ground-truthed the size of the fire at 385 acres. This kind of precision is critical to managing resources and ensuring containment lines are held under changing conditions.

On the Helena Fire, containment efforts are also paying off. Firefighters have successfully held the fire at 102 acres, with 20% containment as of Saturday afternoon. As with the Horse Fire, the acreage was confirmed using GPS and verified by crews on the ground.

With high temperatures and rugged terrain, we continue to prioritize firefighter and public safety as suppression efforts move forward. Additional resources remain committed to both incidents to build upon the gains already made.
