Root Fire Cause Update - Tuesday, September 2, 2025

Law enforcement officers from the Forest Service have determined that the Root Fire was caused by an escaped campfire.

Updated mapping of the Root Fire shows it to be 668 acres with 0% containment.

Residents and recreationalists are reminded to stay away from areas where firefighters are conducting operations, and to do their part in preventing new fires. Ensure chains are not dragging behind vehicles and keep tires properly inflated; put out any campfires; and never leave a campfire unattended.
