Redding, Calif., September 30, 2025 The Shasta-Trinity National Forest will go out of fire restrictions on Tuesday, September 30.

Falling temperatures, increased soil moisture and recent rains have created conditions allowing the forest to go out of fire restrictions that were put in place over the summer.

“We work hard here on the Shasta-Trinity National Forest to balance the need for fire safety with allowing visitors to maximize recreational enjoyment on their public lands,” said Kevin Osborne, Fire Management Officer of the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. “With the recent moderation in temperatures and rainfall across much of the forest, conditions are such that we feel comfortable lifting campfire restrictions. Lifting these restrictions allows the public to have more opportunity to use fires appropriately and wisely when visiting their National Forest lands.”

While fire restrictions are being lifted, the public is asked to be fire wise when out in the forest. More than 80% of wildfires are human caused. Here are some steps you can take:

  • When towing a trailer, make sure you are not dragging chains. Dragging chains create sparks, which can start a fire.
  • Don’t park your vehicle in tall grass and underbrush. The underside of your vehicle can get hot enough to ignite vegetation and start a fire.
  • Make sure you keep your tires properly inflated. Improperly inflated tires can lead to the rims of a wheel making contact with the roadway, which can create sparks.
  • Have a fire extinguisher available and ready to use.
  • Never leave campfires unattended. Make sure any campfire is completely doused and cold to the touch before leaving.
