Baker Lake

Baker Lake is a large freshwater lake that is home to several species of fish, including kokanee, bull trout, rainbow trout, sockeye salmon and mountain whitefish.  The recreation area around this nine-mile reservoir is popular for camping, boating, fishing, picnicking, hiking and pack and saddle trips.

U.S. Forest Service developed campgrounds with reservable sites are located on the western side of the lake and include:

Puget Sound Energy operates the Kulshan Campground, providing approximately 108 tent and RV sites available on a first-come-first-served basis. 

The Baker Lake Trail 610 is a wonderful family hike. It extends along the eastern shoreline, crossing Baker River at the north end of the lake where there is a junction to Baker River Trail 606.  Four U.S. Forest Service campgrounds are accessible along the 14-mile Baker Lake Trail and campsites are available on a first come first serve basis.  Sites include picnic tables, fire pits, and bear boxes.

  • Anderson Point Campground – located 2 miles from South Baker Lake Trailhead (7 campsites)
  • Maple Grove Campground – located 4 miles from South Baker Lake Trailhead (7 campsites)
  • Silver Creek Campground – located 8.5 miles from South Baker Lake Trailhead (1 campsite)
  • Noisy Creek Campground – located 9.5 miles from South Baker Lake Trailhead (6 campsites)

Baker Lake Sockeye Salmon Season

Sockeye salmon season opens as early as July and fishing enthusiasts flock to Baker Lake.  Fishing requires a Washington State fishing license.  Follow boater and parking guidelines.

Hours: **Closed December 24-26** OPEN Monday (all services provided); OPEN Tues-Fri (limited services: Maps, NW Forest Pass, Interagency Pass Only). Hours 8-4pm Closed 12-1 for lunch. CLOSED on weekends. (Closed on federal holidays)

Directions

From Sedro-Woolley, WA follow State Route 20 east for 16 miles to milepost 82. Turn left (north) on the Baker Lake Highway (Forest Service Road 11) and continue to reach several recreation sites adjacent to the lake.
