Camping & Cabins

The Siuslaw National Forest has close to 40 developed campgrounds. Most campgrounds on the forest can be reserved in advance. Reserve online at Recreation.gov or call toll free 1-877-444-6777 (international 518-885-3639). The Oregon coast has a busy tourist season from May through October and campgrounds often fill quickly so plan ahead and have a backup plan if your desired campground is full. All campgrounds and sand camping sites within the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, reaching from Coos Bay to Florence, require an electronic reservation and payment.

Campsites typically include a table, a fire grate, and a tent or trailer space. Electric hookups and showers are not generally available, although most campgrounds have water and vault or flush toilets.

Most overnight sites require a user fee. Camping is limited to no more than 14 days in any 30 day consecutive period in developed campgrounds; and limited to no more than 14 days in any 60 day consecutive period in undeveloped or dispersed areas of the forest where camping is allowed. While the Forest Service administers all campground facilities, private businesses provide daily maintenance on most sites. View the latest Forest Orders for all camping restrictions and prohibitions on the Siuslaw National Forest.

Dispersed Camping

Many people enjoy the solitude and primitive experience of camping away from developed campgrounds and other campers. "Dispersed camping" is the term used for camping anywhere in the National Forest OUTSIDE of a developed campground. Dispersed camping usually means no toilet facilities or treated water, no fire grates, and no picnic tables or other amenities are provided.

There are extra responsibilities and skills needed for dispersed camping. By applying Leave No Trace practices, you will ensure a safe, clean and positive experience for your family and the environment.

Guidelines for dispersed camping (including a list of areas posted closed to camping).

The sites listed below are some popular, well used dispersed camping areas. For other more out of the way places, please check the Motor Vehicle Use Map for permissible locations.

The Forest also has dispersed OHV Sand Camping sites. Sand camping is allowed in areas at Sand Lake Recreation Area and at the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area - North and Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area - South. Each area has different regulations as to where you can camp.

Group Camping

Family gatherings or other group events from 50 to 100 people can be accommodated by the group areas on the Siuslaw National Forest.

There are 4 campgrounds and one picnic site on the forest providing a wide array of facilities for groups.

Some areas include dining shelters, open fields, and group fire rings. Some group areas are located within a larger campground setting and others areas include the entire campground.

All are available by reservation, visit www.recreation.gov or call 1-877-444-6777.
