    The following activities are not allowed per this order:

    • Camping in excess of 14 days in a 30-day period unless otherwise posted.
    • Public nudity.
    • Swimming in a body of water within a developed recreation area not designated for this use.
    • SCUBA unless posted.
    • Fishing within 50 yards of a boat ramp or designated swimming area.
    • Swimming or being in a body of water within 100 yards of a boat ramp.
    • Possessing or operating, upon a body of water, a motorboat in or within 100 feet of a designated swimming area or in violation of the US Coat Guard regulations or having an internal combustion engine.
    • Possessing or operating a boat or other watercraft causing a wake in a "No Wake Zone.""
    • Waterskiing in an area not designated for this use.
    • Possessing or consuming alcohol in violation of Florida State Law.
    • Possessing, storing, discarding, burning, burying or leaving any food, refuse or bear attractant in violation of certain requirements (see order for specifics and definitions).

Occupancy and Use 

Pursuant to Title 36 CFR 261.50(a) and (b), the following act is prohibited within the National Forests in Florida. 

Camping or maintaining a campsite in excess of 14 days within any 30 day time period, unless the campsite has been posted with different stay limits by the Forest Service. (36 C.F.R. Section 261.58(a)) 

Camping is prohibited from one day prior to the State designated season for taking of deer with modern firearms until the end of said designated season, except at developed recreation sites and designated hunt camps. (36 CFR 261.58(e)) 

Camping in violation of a posted sign. (36 CFR 261.SS(e)) 

Use of a campsite within a developed recreation area by more than five persons. (36 CFR 261.58(f)) 

Parking or leaving a vehicle in violation of a posted sign. (36 CFR. 261.58(g)) 

Being publicly nude. (36 CFR 261.58(j)) 

Swimming in a body of water, or portion thereof, within a developed recreation area, which is not designated for this use. (36 CFR 261.SS(k))

Entering or being in a body of water while possessing or using a self- contained underwater breathing apparatus (SCUBA) in violation of posted instructions. (36 CFR 261.58(k)) 

Fishing within 50 yards of a boat ramp or area designated for swimming. (36 CFR 261.58(k)) 

Swimming or being in a body of water within 100 feet of a boat ramp. (36 CFR 261.58(k)) 

Possessing or operating, upon a body of water, a motorboat in or within 100 feet of a designated swimming area. (36 CFR 261.58(n)) 

Possessing or operating any type of motorboat in violation of United States Coast Guard regulations. (36 CFR 261.58(n)) 

Possessing or operating upon a body of water, a motorboat having an internal combustion engine in violation of posted signs. (36 CFR 58(n)) ) 

Possessing or operating a boat or other watercraft in such a manner to cause a wake in an area posted as a "No Wake Zone". (36 CFR 261.58(n)) 

Water-skiing on a body of water, or portion thereof, which is not designated for this use. (36 CFR 261.58(o)) Possessing or consuming an alcoholic beverage in violation of any Florida State Law is prohibited. (36 CFR 261.58(bb)) 

  1. Possessing, storing, or leaving any food, refuse or bear attractant unless it is:
    1. properly stored in a bear-resistant container;
    2. suspended at least ten feet clear of the ground at all points, suspended at least four feet horizontally from the supporting tree or pole, and suspended at least four feet from any other tree or pole adjacent to the supporting tree or pole;
    3. stored in a closed, motor vehicle without a soft, convertible top; or d. being eaten, being prepared for eating or being transported.
  2. Discarding or abandoning any food, refuse, or bear attractant unless it is:
    1. disposed of in a bear-resistant trash receptacle which has been provided by the Forest Service for that purpose.
  3. Burning or burying any food, refuse, or bear attractant. ) 3

The following definitions shall apply to this Closure Order: 

Bear attractant: means any substance having an odor that may attract bears, such as food, cooking grease, toothpaste, soap, and garbage. 

Bear-resistant container: means a securable container constructed of solid non-pliable material capable of withstanding 200 foot-pounds of energy. When secured and under stress the container will not have any cracks, openings, or hinges that would allow a bear to gain entry by biting or pulling with its claws. Wood containers are not considered bear resistant unless they are reinforced with metal. 

Food: means any nourishing substance, solid or liquid, which is not native to the immediate area, including nourishing substances for humans, pets, and livestock. Food does not mean water and baled hay. 

Refuse: means any discarded material or solid waste. 

Pursuant to 36 C.F.R. 261.S0(e) the following persons are exempt from the above Prohibitions: 

  1. Persons with a permit specifically authorizing the otherwise prohibited act or omission.
  2. Any Federal, State, of local officer, or member of an organized rescue or fire fighting force in the performance of their official duty. 

This Order is effective this 3rd day of February 2014, and will remain in effect until terminated by appropriate authorized personnel. These prohibitions are in addition to the general prohibitions in 36 CFR Part 261, Subpart A. Executed in Tallahassee, Florida, this 3rd day of February 2014.

Violations of the above prohibition set forth, are punishable by fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual and $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than (6) six months, or both. (16 U.S.C. 551 and 18 U.S.C. 3559 and 3571).
