Projects

As part of managing the vast natural resources under Forest Service care, agency resource specialists conduct an environmental analysis of proposed projects following guidance provided in the Forest Plan and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) . These analyses are documented in a variety of NEPA documents.

The projects listed in the "NEPA Projects" quick link (right) are currently being analyzed or have been recently completed. Oversight of this process for all of the National Forests in Florida, and the Florida National Scenic Trail, lies with the Supervisor's Office in Tallahassee.

The Forest Service depends on public involvement to make this process most effective and your involvement is strongly encouraged. In addition to your involvement during the project planning and development stages, you may also be entitled to appeal a project decision. Learn about your right to appeal a decision.

Environmental Assessment

The National Forests in Florida has published the Environmental Assessment (EA) for the National Forests in Florida Prescribed Fire/Fuels Project . The EA and other documents can be found on the project webpage at: https://www.fs.usda.gov/r08/florida/projects/67689 Comments will be accepted until May 22, 2026. This project received approval to use the following emergency authority: IIJA 40807 Forest Health and Fuels Emergency Situation Determination (ESD) and is therefore not subject to the pre-decisional objection process (36 CFR 218).

The Morrison Hammock Analysis Area Environmental Assessment and Draft FONSI/Decision Notice have been published for a 45 day objection period. Please see the project webpage https://www.fs.usda.gov/r08/florida/projects/66400 on objection eligibility and timelines.

The Forest Service follows NEPA regulations issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Under this rule, Forest Service officials determine which proposed projects are shared for public input.

The agency no longer issues a schedule of proposed actions (SOPA) report. Below is the current list of proposed projects available for review—your opportunity to learn more, share feedback, and stay engaged in decisions that shape the future of our public lands.
