Secure Rural Schools Resource Advisory Committee (RAC)

Designated to assist rural communities in and around National Forests, the Secure Rural Schools Resource Advisory Committee provides advice and recommendations to the Forest Service on the development and implementation of special projects as authorized under the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act, Public Law 110-343.

Kisatchie's Resource Advisory Committee

The Kisatchie National Forest's Resource Advisory Committee consists of 15 people selected to serve on the committee by the Secretary of Agriculture. Members are from throughout the state and represent varied interests and areas of expertise. They work collaboratively to improve working relationships among community members and National Forest personnel.

Louisiana Parishes receive a Secure Rural Schools payment annually for having National Forest lands within their boundaries. Seven Louisiana parishes - Webster, Claiborne, Winn, Natchitoches, Grant, Rapides, and Vernon - elected to set aside a percentage of their payment for special projects. The Resource Advisory Committee will ultimately review and recommend projects to be funded from this money.

Projects approved must benefit National Forests lands. Projects can maintain infrastructure, improve the health of watersheds and ecosystems, protect communities, and strengthen local economies.

Currently, the Kisatchie does not have an active Resource Advisory Committee. We are in the process of gathering applications from interested parties to serve on the Resource Advisory Committee.

How to Apply

Committee seats open on a periodic basis, with members of the public encouraged to apply. All committee meetings are open to the public.
