Luna - White Deer Lake Recreation Area
If you want to be on not one, but two lakes, and get away from motors and developed shorelines and you like to swim and fish for trout and bass, try Luna-White Deer Lake Recreation Area off Highway 70 east of Eagle River.
The Luna-White Deer Lake Recreation Area on the Eagle River District consists of a campground with 37 campsites are equipped with picnic tables, fire rings with grills, with easy access vaulted toilets, and drinking water.
Day use facility is nestled in an area between two deep, clear lakes, Luna-White Deer provides a deep-woods setting where you can hear the eerie call of loons at night and see lots of wildlife by day. For scenic vistas and a chance to explore nature more closely, hike the four-mile trail around both lakes.
Did you forget something? Don’t sweat it! The small cities of Eagle River can meet your camping supply needs ranging from groceries to fire wood, as well as a souvenir or two.

Reservations
Make Reservations HereLuna White Deer Lake Campground has been added to the reservation system for the 2018 camping season. The reservation system provides visitors the opportunity to reserve their favorite spot during specific times, ensuring a place to stay, which will be beneficial to local users as well as users traveling from afar. Sites can be reserved at www.recreation.gov or by calling Reserve America at 1-877-444-6777 or TDD 1-877-833-6777. The campground will still have first come first served sites available for those who prefer a more spontaneous adventure.

Campground Camping
Nestled between two deep clear lakes, Luna-White Deer campground provides a northwoods experience where you can hear the call of the loons at night and see lots of wildlife by day. Half of the campsites are on the two non-motorized lakes. The Luna-Whitedeer Lake Recreation Area consists of a campground with 37 campsites are equipped with picnic tables, fire rings with grills, with easy access vaulted toilets, and drinking water.
A four-mile trail with great vistas circles the two lakes. Luna-Whitedeer Lake offers many waterfront camping sites for you to enjoy.

The USDA Forest Service honors all four Interagency Recreation Passes that may be applied at National Park Service, Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Reclamation and U.S. Fish and Wildlife sites charging recreation use fees.
Campsite Capacity
- Maximum of 8 people and 4 vehicles at each camp site.
- Vehicle capacity limit includes vehicles, wheeled camping units and trailers.
Pets and Animals
- Pets must always be restrained or on a leash while in developed recreation areas.
- Pets (except guide dogs) are not allowed in swimming areas.
- Saddle or pack animals are allowed in recreation sites only where authorized by posted instructions.
Firewood Closure Order
- Our firewood closure order prohibits the possession, storage, or transport of any firewood that originates from more than 25 miles from your campsite. Firewood certified by the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Transportation and Consumer Protection can originate from more than 25 miles from National Forest destination.
- Both certified firewood and Kiln-dried, untreated/unpainted/unstained/construction/dimensional lumber that is free of any metal or foreign substance is approved. Pallet boards are not approved.
Operation of all ATVs & UTVs are prohibited in campground.
Individual campsite fee is $18/night for lakeshore family sites, 15/night for off lake sites. Nightly fees are half of price shown with use of Interagency Senior or Access Pass. Interagency Pass discounts apply only to the fee for the campsite physically occupied by the pass holder.

Directions
From Eagle River travel 13.4 miles on Highway 70 to FR 2176 (Divide Road). Turn right (south) and continue 5.6 miles to FR 2188. Turn right and travel 0.7 miles to the campground.

Day Hikes Info
Looking for adventure? Put on your hiking boots and try The Hidden Lakes Trail. It is a long-distance trail providing the chance for an overnight campout by a small remote lake. The trail begins midway on the Franklin Nature Trail and loops to the south around Butternut Lake, passing Luna-White Deer Campground and then back west and north to Franklin Lake Campground. A map is available at the Eagle River District Office.

Hike the Luna-Whitedeer Trail along the shorelines of both Luna and White Deer Lakes on this tranquil trail adjacent to Luna-White Deer Campground. Both of the crystal clear, undeveloped lakes present a setting hikers can enjoy at dawn on a foggy morning or on a crisp, clear, and sunny fall afternoon.

The Nicolet North Trail is a favorite trail for hikers. The Nicolet North Trail is connected to the Anvil National Recreation Trail. In addition, part of the Hidden Lakes Trail follows some of this trail. A map is available at the trailhead.

Biking - Mountain Info
The Nicolet North Trail is a favorite trail for mountain bike enthusiasts. Fifteen miles of trail are groomed and tracked in winter for skiing (traditional-style as well as ski-skating style). The Nicolet North Trail is connected to the Anvil National Recreation Trail. In addition, part of the Hidden Lakes Trail follows some of this trail. A map is available at the trailhead.

The Anvil National Recreation Trail, one of the most popular trail systems in the area. Anvil is excellent for hiking and mountain biking in summer and fall. It is also a designated watchable wildlife area, especially for woodland warblers. A trail map is available at the trailhead.
