The Umpqua National Forest contains over 530 miles of trail, including 30 miles of the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail. While many trails are located in high-elevation areas, many are low-elevation trails that are easy to access for year-round hiking. Call one of our ranger stations for specific trail recommendations.
Get Off the Beaten Path
Hiking opportunities abound on the Umpqua National Forest.
- Climb to new heights. Summit one of the Forest's alpine peaks by hiking the Mount Bailey Trail, the Mount Thielsen Trail, or the Mount June Trail.
- Camp out under the stars. Popular backpacking trails on the Umpqua National Forest include the North Umpqua Trail and the Pacific Crest Trail.
- Be dazzled by thundering waters. There are numerous waterfall hikes to enjoy on the Forest, including the third-highest waterfall in Oregon.
- Explore the backcountry. The Umpqua National Forest protects the Mount Thielsen, the Boulder Creek, and the Rogue-Umpqua Divide Wilderness areas. Hiking in Wilderness provides superb beauty and solitude, but it comes with additional risks and responsibilities.
