Prescribed Fires on the Forest

Fire information for prescribed firesForest Service employee with drip torch conducting a prescribed fire.

The Kisatchie National Forest will be conducting prescribed burns over the next several months. Prescribed burns help reestablish fire's natural role in the ecosystem, improve forest health, and reduce the threat of catastrophic wildfires. Our forests need fire. Prescribed fires offer the opportunity to adjust the timing of fire and some ability to manage the amount of smoke and its path, potentially reducing the overall impacts of wildland fire emissions on public health and welfare.
