Project SNOW

Every winter, Deschutes National Forest partners with non-profit partner, Discover Your Forest to host a snowshoe program at Mt. Bachelor Ski Resort in Bend, Oregon for people of all ages. Participants, including school children learn about the forest, wildlife and Central Oregon geology.

Over 3,000 local students receive educational programing on the slopes through Project SNOW (Studying Nature Outdoors in Winter).

2019 Deschutes and Willamette NFs Special Recreation Permit Fee Managment Plan

The Deschutes and Willamette National Forests are implementing a Special Recreation Permit Fee authorized by the Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act for areas within the Central Cascades Wilderness. The Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act (REA) authorizes a special recreation permit (SRP) and SRP fee for specialized recreation uses of Federal recreational lands and waters (16 U.S.C. 6802(h)).
