Permits
The Forest Service offers places for hiking, biking, skiing, nature viewing, scenic drives, and for gathering forest products such as mushrooms, firewood, and Christmas trees. Many of the facilities and services associated with these opportunities are free. However, some do require permits to help maintain, manage and improve your national forests and grasslands.
You can purchase many of these permits at any local Forest Service Ranger District office near you.
*Wilderness Permits are not required for the three Wilderness areas on the Lassen National Forest.
Campfire Permits

A campfire permit is required for campfire use, except when camping in a developed campground.
Personal Fuelwood Permits

Permits can be purchased that allow you to cut firewood on the Lassen National Forest. Permits are for noncommercial, personal use only.
Commercial Fuelwood Permit Request

Commercial Fuelwood Permits are valid for use on the Almanor Ranger District (Zone IV) ONLY. The cost is $10.00 per cord with a five cord minimum and ten cord maximum per request.
Christmas Tree Permits

Lassen National Forest Christmas Tree Permits available on or about November 1st each year.
Other Forest Products

Collecting and removing forest products often requires a permit. Other forest products can include items, such as posts, poles, edible material, decorative material, plants, and other woody material.
Special Use Permits

Certain types of activities and uses of public lands require "Special Use Authorizations." An authorization is a legal document that grants permission for occupancy or use of National Forest System lands. Both commercial activities and noncommercial uses activities often require obtaining an authorization.
