The Forest Service follows NEPA regulations issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Under this rule, Forest Service officials determine which proposed projects are shared for public input.
The agency no longer issues a schedule of proposed actions (SOPA) report. Below is the current list of proposed projects available for review—your opportunity to learn more, share feedback, and stay engaged in decisions that shape the future of our public lands.
American Dark Fiber has submitted a special use permit application to install approximately 5.85 miles of fiber optic lines within existing road and powerline rights-of-way. Most of the project is located along State Route 36. Link: https://usfs-public.box.com/s/hfjxl6xyt3592kg6miu2kksmwgklv5uk
Restore meadow hydrology and habitat by redirecting flow into historic remnant channels along a reach of Pine Creek while filling the degraded channel and ditch to match the floodplain elevation.
Project supports postfire recovery and restoration in areas burned in 2021 Dixie Fire. A variety of veg and fuels treatments are designed to maintain or promote desired stand structure, reduce fuel loads, increase resilience, and facilitate recovery.
Develop approximately 24.5 miles of multi-use, non-motorized loop trails & two trailheads, for hiking/walking, bicycling & equestrian use. Trailheads near Fredonyer Crest & Goumaz Campground would include parking, informational kiosks & restrooms.

The Lassen national Forest proposes to extend the low water boat ramp at Eagle Lake, construct an admin road, and scour sediments to increase lake depth for safer boat launching. Please see the project link for further info: (https://usfs-public.box.com/s/lz3ifz442a7cpuq0cyyxzagm0a0d4ghd)
The purpose of the Green Badger Project is to reduce fuels, improve forest health, and enhance wildlife habitat. Project level plan amendment. Seeking an Emergency Action Determination under Section 40807 of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act
Project would remove hazardous fuels on the PG&E Hat Creek#1-Westwood 60kV Powerline. Vegetation would be cleared 40 ft out from centerline on both sides of the line and thinned 160 ft beyond that. Total width 400 ft, total length approx. 42 miles.
The primary goal of this project is economic recovery of timber value lost from wildfire and mitigating public hazard by removing dead trees along open system roads and trails. The secondary goal is reforestation, within and outside of salvage areas.
The main project objective is to block illegal OHV use in the Homer/Deerheart Lake Special Interest Area. The LNF will replace an existing ineffective boulder barrier road closure with a metal gate. Additional closure sites will also be considered.
Restore & enhance hydrologic function of stream and meadow conditions within the Pine Creek watershed. This will be accomplished by redirecting the flow of Pine Creek to natural valley low, and removing obstructions.
The NWFP Amendment provides an updated management framework that incorporates best available scientific information, considers public input, recommendations from the Federal Advisory Committee, tribes, and government partners.
Provide access to Eagle Lake on extremely low water years by constructing a new low water boat ramp. Alternatives are being considered based on public feedback and concerns. Email comments to: comments-pacificsouthwest-lassen-eagle-lake@usda.gov
Thin areas around proven rust resistant sugar pine (RRSP) trees to increase sustainability by reducing direct vegetative competition, wildfire risk, over-wintering habitat for cone boring insects, and squirrel access to crowns.
This project aims to improve forest and meadow health and increase resiliency of wildlife habitat, the Wildland Urban Interface and of cultural resources on 19,881 acres.
The Lassen National Forest is proposing management activities on approximately 101,000 acres of National Forest System lands to improve forest resilience and watershed health and reduce fuels to protect local communities.
Project focus: Treating priority areas in Whaleback Fire footprint by reducing safety hazards along roads, fuel breaks & treatment areas; recover economic value of burned trees; reduce fuel loads; accelerate reforestation; & treating Aspen stands.
This Project is being developed to respond to conditions created by the Sheep Fire of 2020. The area has been evaluated for the need to reduce safety hazards along roads and to re-establish forest cover in areas of high burn severity.
