Hellroaring Plateau Trail (# 11)
Hellroaring Plateau Trail (# 11) is 2.5 miles long. The trail follows an old road and travels across the plateau. The trail ends at a steep talus slope overlooking Shelf Lake. The trail is primarily used to access the lakes on the plateau. A user-created trail intersects the Hellroaring Plateau Trail and takes you to Snowbank Lake. The Hellroaring Plateau Trail can also be used as an approach to Mt. Rearguard, the 19th highest mountain in Montana. Elevation change: 800 feet. The trail is open for the following uses: hiking, horseback riding (however, the Hellroaring Road is rocky with potholes. Travelling this road in a horse trailer is not recommended).

Directions from Beartooth District Office:
Drive south on US Hwy 212 for 10.9 miles. Turn right onto the Main Fork Rock Creek Rd (Forest Road 2421). Drive 0.9 miles past three campgrounds and bear to the right onto the Hellroaring Rd. Drive 5.6 miles to the trailhead at the end of the road. There is ample parking.
*Please be advised that the Hellroaring Road is rocky with potholes. High clearance vehicles are advised.
