Mount Nystrom Trailhead
The Mt. Nystrom Trailhead is a minor trailhead that provides access to the Vasquez Wilderness. There are no facilities. Begin at the Mt. Nystrom Trailhead. The Mt. Nystrom Trail (#13) begins as an old road through the Fraser Experimental Forest for 5.5 miles. Once exiting the Experimental Forest, the single-track trail begins and follows the edge of the Vasquez Peak Wilderness. After several miles, the trail reaches Mt. Nystrom (12,652 feet) and then turns east. The trail passes Stanley Mountain (12,521 feet) and eventually ends at the Winter Park Resort. The trail is 5.5 miles from Mt. Nystrom Trailhead to the start of the Mt. Nystrom Trail and 19.9 miles from the end of the road to the Winter Park Resort. These distances are one-way.
If looking for a shorter route to Mt. Nystrom, start at the Jones Pass Trailhead and head north on the Jones Pass Trail (#96).

General Information
This trail is not conducive for backpacking. With much of the trail system above timberline, sudden summer thunderstorms can make exposure to lightning in the Vasquez Mountains a dangerous risk. Plan on hiking early and dropping into the trees before afternoon storms break. In winter, avalanches are common.
