Shadow Mountain Dam Trailhead

Current Conditions

Work on Shadow Mountain Dam will cause some delays in access. The access point to the East Shore Trail system will experience temporary closures during weekday working hours (typically 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.). Access will be open in the evenings and weekends and open Sept. 4-7 for Labor Day weekend. Northern Water staff will be at the Shadow Mountain dam during weekday working hours to direct traffic and escort pedestrians and bikers over the dam when safe windows open. Signs are posted onsite to direct foot traffic around the dam to an alternative East Shore Trail access point, about a half-mile south of the dam. Bikers are not allowed on the alternative route and must wait to be escorted when safe windows open. The Shadow Mountain Dam Trailhead is located at the southern end of Shadow Mountain Reservoir and the Green Ridge Campground. This trailhead provides access to Rocky Mountain National Park and the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail.

General Information

Trailhead provides access to trails in Rocky Mountain National Park. Pets and bicycles are prohibited on National Park trails.

Directions

The trailhead is located in the Arapaho National Recreation Area, 12 miles northwest of Granby on U.S. Highway 34 and two miles east on County Road 66, Forest Road 274 (on Shadow Mountain Lake) to Green Ridge Campground. Drive between the campground loops to the lake's shore and park on the right.
