Round Mountain Trail
The Foothills Nature Trail, owned by the City of Loveland, starts from the same trailhead and is a one-mile hike ending at an old CCC built stone shelter overlooking the Big Thompson Canyon. After a quarter mile, the Round Mountain Trail branches off the left. The trail travels through several granite outcroppings and through ponderosa pine and Douglas fir. Views from the trail include the Big Thompson Canyon, the eastern plains of Colorado, and Pinewood and Carter Lake reservoirs.

No motorized equipment. Camping and fires are prohibited along the first mile of both trails. Pets must be on a hand-held leash at all times. Pets accompanying stock riders must be under voice control.

Round Mountain Trailhead accommodates approximately 20 vehicles.
Directions
Travel on U.S. Highway 34 up Big Thompson Canyon west of Loveland, four miles past the mouth of the Canyon. Viestenz-Smith Mountain Park is on the right, and on the left a short dirt road provides access to the trailhead parking lot.
