South Fork Trail

Begin at the South Fork Trailhead, the trail follows either the South Fork or the Williams Fork River until they meet above tree line. Parts of the upper trail are very steep; however, both the lower trails are moderate hikes along the streams. After following the river for about 10 miles, the trail begins to climb steeply. This is the most difficult part of the trail as it climbs to tree line, follows the ridge, and then drops down into the Bobtail Creek. The trail follows Bobtail Creek for 4 miles, pass Pettingell Peak (13,553 feet) and then comes to the old Bobtail Mine. There are several buildings in this location that are owned by the Denver Water Board. This is a 24-mile loop.
