  • Powerline Construction Closure Near Village of Oak Creek

    The area south of the Village of Oak Creek and west of highway 179 is closed due to powerline construction and associated operations. The highway will remain open, while the Kel Fox Trail and forest roads 9500A, 9500G, and 9500L are closed.

PROHIBITIONS 

Pursuant to 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 36 C.F.R. § 261.50 (a) and (b), the following is prohibited on the National Forest System (NFS) in the Red Rock Ranger District, Coconino National Forest, described below and shown on the attached map incorporated into this Order as Exhibit A (the “Described Road" and “Described Area”):

  1. Public Health and Safety. 36 C.F.R. § 261.53(e).
  2. Being on the Described Roads. 36 C.F.R. § 261.54(e).
  3. Being on the Described Trails. 36 C.F.R. § 261.55(a).

EXEMPTIONS 

  1. Pursuant to 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this Order:
  2. Persons with Forest Service Permit No. FS-7700-48 (Permit for Use of Roads, Trails, or Areas Restricted by Regulation or Order), specifically exempting them from this Order or a written determination by a Forest Service authorized officer that a permit is not required under 36 C.F.R. § 251.50(e)(1) or (2).
  3. Any Federal, State, or Local Officer, or member of an organized rescue or firefighting resource in the performance of an official duty. 

DESCRIBED AREA/ROADS/TRAILS 

As depicted on the map in Exhibit A, the described area includes all NFS land within the boundary starting at the intersection of National Forest System Road (NFSR) 120A and Beaverhead Flats Rd. in Township 16N, Range 5E, Section 34, thence, north along FR 120A for 0.2 miles, thence, due east approximately 0.1 miles to 0.15 miles west of FR 9500A, thence, northerly 0.15 miles west of and parallel to FR 9500 A to 0.15 miles due west of Stud Horse Tank, thence, due east through Stud Horse Tank to 0.5 miles west of FR 9500L, thence, northerly 0.5 miles west of FR 9500L and Kel Fox Trail #195 to Forest and private land boundary, thence, easterly along Forest boundary to intersection with State Route 179, thence, south along State Route 179 to intersection of State Route 179 and Beaverhead Flats Rd., thence, westerly along Beaverhead Flats Rd. back to the boundary’s beginning point at the intersection of Beaverhead Flats Rd. and FR 120A. 

State Route 179 and Beaverhead Flats Rd. remain open and unaffected by this order. FR 120A remains open. The entirety of FR 9500A, FR 9500G, and FR 9500L are within the boundary and closed under this order. 

PURPOSE 

A closure is needed to provide for public health and safety due to powerline construction and associated operations. 

IMPLEMENTATION 

  1. This Order shall be in effect from October 10, 2025 at 8:00 am through December 31, 2025 at 11:59 pm unless rescinded.
  2. A map identifying the Described Road and Described Area is attached and made part of this Order as Exhibit A.
  3. Unless otherwise expressly defined in this Order, the terms used in this Order are defined by the regulations of the Secretary of Agriculture, 36 C.F.R. Chapter II, Parts 200-299. If there are terms in this Order that are not expressly defined in the Order or 36 C.F.R. Chapter II, Parts 200-299, their meaning shall be determined by their plain language definitions.
  4. A violation of the above prohibitions is punishable as a Class B misdemeanor by a fine of not more than $5,000 for individuals and $10,000 for organizations, or by imprisonment for not more than six months, or both. 16 U.S.C. § 551; 18 U.S.C. §§ 3559, 3571, and 3581.
  5. Contact the Red Rock Ranger District in Sedona, (928) 203-2900, and Coconino National Forest Supervisor’s Office in Flagstaff, (928) 527-3600, for more information about this Order.
  6. This Order supersedes any previous Orders prohibiting the same or similar acts in/on the same Described Road and Described Area.
